Is it really your work?

Chapter 18 talks about plagiarism, and what not to do. It also talks about crediting your source, and how that establishes your ethos. It states that you must completely cite your source as well as recognize plagiarism, because if you use a plagiarized source, you will be accused of plagiarism as well. I thought the part were the book talks about how they put water marks on internet sites, so not only can the see it on paper, but also if you have looked at that website. For the research paper, we must cite our sources in MLA format. I thought this chapter was interesting, because they talk about the same stuff we have had pounded into our heads since first grade, but it also talks about how to site your sources, and how to make sure you don't use a plagiarized source.

Research question

So for my research question I am thinking about the effect of car theft in California. I want to show the cause and effect of car theft on the average Californian. Car theft in California, is the highest in the nation, with four of the top ten cities in the nation for car theft. Car theft is defined as-Theft of an unattended vehicle without key(s)

I am passionate about this topic because may of this year I had my car stolen. It really made the problem hit to close to home. Although I got my car back, I still felt violated, and made me want to research and combat the problem. I also want to look at the other side of the situation, to look into the side of the thiefs, see their motivations, and into their lives.

So if you have any suggestions on how I can narrow down my research question into a precious one please let me know. Thanks

Car theft

Car theft

According to Auto Theft and Its Prevention the author talks about that in 1989 11% of the UCR (Unified Crime Index) was that of car theft. It also talks about how in America the car theft rate is much higher than it is in most developing countries. A lot of cars are stolen at night, from the street, and are usually taken for joy riding, and sometimes taken to be striped for their parts. The author also states that most people’s reactions to their cars being stolen aren’t as strong as burglary, but the financial loss is much higher. Overall I thought this article was very interesting, and just backed up the facts I had read in other articles.

Identity Theft

So i read a couple of blogs on identity theft, and learned something very interesting. According to one of the blogs on November 1, 2008 new identity theft regulations are going into effect. Colleges and universities are going to be effected by this because, it requires colleges and universities to put indenitity theft prevention programs into effect at the individual schools for new accounts. I think this is good because alot of students and staff sign onto school internet everyday, trusting it to protect from idenity theft, and yet is sounds like most schools dont. It also talks about consumer reporting agencies doing the same things, when they are working for schools and alerting school when they see discrepences in the finding.

Crime blog #1

So I read a couple of blogs about car theft in Sacramento. I learned that the car theft rate in Sacramento has gone down, and in fact has pushed Sacramento out of the top ten cities in the nation. They also say that the rate is going to keep dropping, at least for a couple of year. I am writing a paper for my english class, and would love any feed back and information on the car theft rate in Sacramento. Thanks

My First Blog

Hello,
My name is Eddie and I am currently a freshman at Sac State. I have made this blog for my English composition class. We are doing this for a research project my teacher and another professor are doing on the effect of technology in the classroom. I have never had a blog before, in fact I have never read a blog before. So I am new at this, and would love any feed back or suggestions on how to make my blogging better.
Thanks
